The Particle Platform is an industry initiative coordinated by CEFIC,in which all major particle producers are represented, driving by the common goal to obtain better tests for so-called poorly soluble low toxicity (PSLT) particles, containing important particle groups such as amorphous silica’s, talc, kaolin and many others. Current test protocols for specific target organ toxicity (STOT) will automatically lead to classification. Animal tests are therefore not ethical and not predictive. Nanoconsult is a member of the Platform as consultant to different associations.
The platform is preparing a white paper Inhalation of particulate substances with no or very low intrinsic toxicity: Challenges, Implications and Recommendations, which will be presented soon to the commission. Related activities this year will concern Talc at IARC and also its discussion at ECHA.
